What do you do when a tiger sized leopard is loose in the store? In this dream I anxiously tried to get out of the way. I noticed some other people were closer to the leopard and in all likelihood they'd be attacked first if anyone was going to be attacked. I was curious, though, as to why this woman had a pet leopard. And also why she'd let him loose.

Dreamed of a friend today. There were feelings of love involved, but the dream is mostly a foggy memory, so this haiku is all I can muster.
In the dream I'm with my mom. We're in the desert and we come upon a Victorian home with a gift shop inside. I look through a tray of ceramic hearts and pick out one that has a crown on top.
The heart in the photo was made (by me) nearly 10 years ago. It's made of fimo or sculpy and an assortment of beads. The clay heart in the dream is similar, but a little bigger, and it's ceramic, not sculpy.
I can't believe I got this shot! I took it Friday night when we were at Mojave National Preserve.
I was drinking wine and eating my dinner when Scott pointed and said, "Wow!" I looked up and thought the hills were on fire again! The moon was truly spectacular, rising a brilliant orange over the desert hills and sagebrush. The moon is probably my favorite thing in existence. (If you click on this the image will be the same size, but it won't be so pixelated.)
The flowers were stunning! We walked a mile to get to the volcano, then hiked straight up 80 feet to get the to rim, walked the mile long circumference, and eventually back to the truck. Wow. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. (Oh, I captured two blister beetles, too, so if you're squeamish about bugs...just pretend like they're flying flowers.)
The next day we decided to go to Amboy, a volcanic crater close to Mojave National Preserve. We had a problem, though. We were in the middle of the desert, needed gas and the closest gas station we knew of was 40 miles in the opposite direction from Amboy.
The situation became even more dreamlike when we crossed the threshold of the park and saw that I-40 was backed up from the park entrance all the way to Vegas, or so it seemed! The accident had happened near the park entrance (before we arrived) and a helicopter had already landed to rescue whoever was obviously injured.
I said a little prayer and we decided to skip the 40 mile gas station in Needles, CA and head to 29 Palms which was 80 miles away! This may seem strange, to drive 160 miles round trip just to get gas, but before we could search for any wild flowers we had to have more gas or we'd be stranded.
The long desert highway was...long. Dry. Hot. Dusty. We were grumbling, feeling like we'd made a mistake and that we should have just stayed at our campsite instead of driving several hours to get gas...but I wanted to go to Amboy to see the flowers, so we persevered.
Maybe, just maybe, I though, Amboy would have a gas station. It wasn't on our GPS, but there was always a slim chance.
Lo and behold, Amboy saved the day. Or Roy, rather. Roy's was built long ago and was the watering hole for dusty travelers escaping the dust bowl and heading out west. Eventually it became the stomping grounds for Route 66 folks traveling cross country. Today, however, Roy's is fairly run down and gas was $4.25 a gallon, but it was worth it. We didn't have to drive to 29 Palms, the volcano was only a few miles away, and the wildflowers...WOW!
